The transport companies in Central Germany sign an agreement to face the challenges of the nationwide shortage of skilled workers.
The transport companies in Central Germany in the states of Saxony, Saxony-Anhalt and Thuringia are facing up to the challenges of the nationwide shortage of skilled workers and improving the framework conditions for more in-company training and qualifications. In a joint agreement, the nine regionally active rail companies DB Regio, Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn (Transdev), Die Länderbahn, CityBahn Chemnitz, DB Regio-Netz Infrastruktur/Verkehrs GmbH, Erfurter Bahn/Süd-Thüringenbahn, and Abellio Rail Mitteldeutschland undertake to reimburse each other’s training costs when trained train drivers transfer to another rail company.
This will increase the incentives to invest even more in their own initial training and the qualification of lateral entrants.
Ines Fröhlich, Secretary of State for Transport at the Ministry of Economic Affairs, Labor and Transport in Saxony
The agreement that has now been reached was reached with the significant participation of the responsible authorities in the three states and is a strong signal that joint efforts are being made to train new skilled workers in this sector as well.
The agreement is intended to help us better meet the growing demand for train drivers. On the one hand, we need to replace employees who are retiring due to age, and on the other hand, more train drivers will be needed in the future, because the expansion of climate-friendly regional transport is an inseparable part of the urgently needed mobility turnaround.
Jan Kleinwechter, Managing Director of Mitteldeutsche Regiobahn
