Regionalverkehr Westsachsen GmbH (RVW) will operate bus services in the district of Zwickau for a further ten years, until the end of 2035.
This was announced by the responsible authority as the result of the corresponding tender. The route bundle comprises 68 bus routes in the north, north west, west and south of the district. Around 4.1 million timetabled kilometers per year are provided in the network. More than half of the over 100 buses in operation will be electric buses in future. Thanks to optimized operational planning, these will provide around 70 percent of the transport service. RVW currently employs 265 people.
Transdev Group already successfully operates more than 3,000 e-buses worldwide. We are happy to contribute our expertise in this area so that we can continue to offer citizens an attractive and climate friendly mobility service together with the district in the coming years.
André Jalowy, RVW Managing Director.
As the previous transport contract with RVW is due to expire at the end of 2025, the district of Zwickau has awarded the regional bus service for the period from January 1, 2026 to December 31, 2035. The existing operator RVW was able to beat the competitors and submitted the most economical offer.
The district of Zwickau will thus become a Germany wide pioneer for electromobility in regional transport. Thanks to higher subsidies and independence from rising diesel prices, the district will save a lot of money in the long term.
Carsten Michaelis, District Administrator.
