Transdev is a pioneer in the field of e-Mobility. By early 2016, Transdev will be operating 153 all-electric buses, including 62 high-capacity vehicles, using all the storage and charging systems on the market today. In fact, one of the Group’s strengths is that, by running very diverse networks in so many different parts of the world, Transdev can capitalize on a wealth of experience and find innovative, high-performance solutions that fit the specific climatic conditions and transport habits of each community where they operate.
To guide and support local communities with their energy and ecological transition, Transdev has created the “Living Lab”, a community of mass transit systems and experts, openly and transparently sharing their experience operating bus lines with 100% eclectic vehicles.
Among the participants in the Living Lab are:
- California: The Standford University campus all electric bus system;
- California: Antelope Valley Transit Authority (AVTA), where Transdev has been operating buses equipped with inductive charging systems (Wave technology)
- California: Foothill Transit, one of the first transit authorities in the US to commit to electric mobility
- York, England: classic double-decker tourist buses are converted from diesel to all-electric
- Espoo, Finland: Transdev operates no less than five different models of electric bus, in extreme weather conditions as part of a public-private research program
- Eskilstuna, Sweden: the urban transit authority operates electric buses with nighttime charging
- Nice, France: first airport bus system to operate electric buses with trickle charging; the system meets two criteria: use of existing infrastructure, and customer satisfaction
What’s more, Chronobus in Bayonne France has been conducting a commercial test run of a 12-meter (39-foot) electric bus called Irizar i2e. The test started on 1 October and will run until January 2016. In the greater Parisian area, Transdev is planning to have a bus line 100% equipped with electric vehicles in 2016. The first of these vehicles will start service next month.
