The Stockholm suburban railway, Roslagsbanan, operated by Transdev Sweden, is set to undergo a major expansion, extending from its current terminus at Stockholm Östra to T-Centralen, the city’s main transportation hub.

The project, estimated to cost 11 billion SEK (950 million euros), is part of the “Sweden Negotiation” agreement, where the state finances large-scale public transport projects in exchange for commitments from municipalities to build new housing. This extension aims to serve the growing population in Stockholm’s suburbs, which are experiencing significant increases in traffic demand.

The new route will feature a 3-kilometer underground tunnel, connecting with Odenplan station to provide links to metro, commuter trains, and bus networks. The project is expected to triple Roslagsbanan’s daily ridership from 50,000 to 150,000 by 2050. Construction is set to begin in 2028, with operations planned for 2038. This extension underscores the region’s commitment to sustainable and efficient public transport as Stockholm continues to grow.
