Following the call for tenders published by the French State on January 27 for the two regional train lines (TET), Nantes-Bordeaux and Nantes-Lyon, for a 10-year period, Transdev announces that it will apply to study the opportunity to respond to these calls for tenders.
With a broad international experience in the rail sector, Transdev is in a position to offer a new approach to mobility for communities by proposing tailored offers between railway lines and other mobility solutions. Indeed, Transdev operates numerous urban and interurban networks along these two lines and has a unique opportunity to propose complementary public transport offers for passengers.
Press release
DownloadTransdev’s ambition through this opening to competition, as has been the case in Germany, is to enable the French State (TET) and the French regions (TER 2) to benefit from a significant reduction in costs along with an improvement in the quality of service, in terms of: punctuality, regularity and frequency of trains, while optimizing the different transport modes between them. Opening up to competition will give transit authorities the room for maneuver to organize mobility more precisely in their communities.
Although this call for applications is an essential step in transforming mobility in France, Transdev is insisting that two essential conditions must be met for the opening to competition to be a success:
- The operator who will be responsible for operating on a line must have control over train maintenance, which is a necessary condition in order to have an overall view of the operations and maintenance costs of train sets;
- The quality of the data transmitted will be essential to propose efficient offers, particularly in terms of marketing and maintenance.
We welcome this call for applications with great enthusiasm because it is an essential step for Transdev to operate rail lines in France. Beyond that, we are convinced that in the context of the energy transition, public transport must be modernized and developed to be more accessible and more useful for passengers in their daily journeys. Trains must be integrated into a complete mobility offer, and this is what Transdev will propose.
