After signing a €757 million public transport contract over 10 years with Västtrafik (Sweden) in March 2019 – including the delivery of 297 electric and biofuel buses – Transdev has closed its first “green financing” with Mitsubishi UFJ Group (MUFG) and Société Générale, supported by the European Investment Bank (EIB). The SEK 1.2 billion (EUR 117 million) financing facility has a maturity of 10 years.

This achievement is a significant milestone and commitment by Transdev on its journey to reduce carbon emissions across its fleets and represents one of the first structured finance green bus transactions in Europe.

At Transdev, we are very pleased to achieve our first green financing with MUFG and Société Générale, supported by the EIB. Transdev is today Europe’s frontrunner public transport operator of zero emission bus fleets in terms of solutions, implementation and operation, with more than 1,100 zero emission vehicles in operation at the end of 2020, including 157 electric buses to be operated for the new Gothenburg concession. With innovative financing schemes, Transdev is well-placed to tackle the challenge of energy transition and therefore bring the best value for money to our Public Transit Authority clients.

Marcos Garcia, Chief Financial Officer of Transdev Group
