Join us on the road to success – that’s the invitation to the engineers of the future from Transdev in northern England as the country celebrates National Apprenticeship Week.
Transdev UK, which has depots across Lancashire and Yorkshire, is creating three new engineering apprenticeships – offering successful candidates a launch pad to build a successful career in the public transit industry.
The three-year apprenticeships will lead to qualification as a Heavy Vehicle Service and Maintenance Technician – a vital role which ensures every bus on the road is reliable in service, and above all, safe.
Meanwhile, 20 of Transdev’s most promising talents are also beginning their own apprenticeships, as National Apprenticeship Week, a UK-wide celebration of the positive value of extended training in a diverse range of skills, starts today.
And the range of apprenticeships under way at Transdev’s depots extends far beyond its engineering workshops, with specialized training programs covering human resources, information technology and leadership skills all underway at various levels in its organization.
All the apprenticeships are being delivered through Transdev’s own in-house training and recruitment division, ‘the ACADEMY by Transdev’, created to accelerate skills development while retaining and developing some of their promising people as the company continues to expand across the North, even during the current pandemic.
Proving that learning is built into Transdev’s DNA at all levels, one of those enrolled and ready to start training is its Operations Director Vitto Pizzuti – and he’s looking forward to widening his own skill set in 2021.
Vitto said: “I’m studying for a Level 5 Diploma in People Management – it’s an HR qualification developed by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD).
“I’m expecting the coursework to be challenging at times, but also rewarding in that it’ll equip me with more skills and confidence to lead and develop our amazing team of people throughout the operations side of our business.”
The UK’s 2021 National Apprenticeship Week runs from 8-14 February, with “Build the Future” as this year’s event theme. The week is in its 14th year and aims to celebrate the positive work employers and apprentices across the country are doing, including how they are stepping up to the challenges of skills training during this unprecedented time.
Minister for Apprenticeships and Skills Gillian Keegan said: “Apprenticeships are a fantastic way to learn while you earn, opening up new and exciting career paths that can transform lives.
“It’s been a tough year for everyone, but we want the theme for National Apprenticeship Week 2021 to be a springboard to look ahead to how apprenticeships can futureproof workforces and boost careers.”
