In an ever-changing world, the issue of urban mobility and its impact on social cohesion is paramount. In Geneva, we are committed to transforming these dynamics into an opportunity to strengthen our social fabric, specifically by reducing the spatial inequalities that can divide our canton.

Geneva’s public transportation networks — Les Transports Publics Genevois (TPG) — are a driver of inclusion and equality. By developing transportation lines that efficiently link outlying districts to the heart of Geneva, we work to ensure that everyone — regardless of where they live — has access to the same opportunities, services and public spaces.

In a context where high-income households own more cars and travel greater distances than low-income households, mobility can become a source of inequality. This fully justifies our commitment to advancing mobility for all, ensuring fair access to services and opportunities for everyone.

Beyond transportation, we believe it’s important to develop urban development projects that integrate green spaces, community centers and cultural and sports facilities accessible by foot or bicycle. Designed in consultation with local communities, these projects ensure that the needs of each neighborhood are heard and addressed.

In our Social Cohesion department, the primary focus is on addressing territorial inequalities as a means of promoting social cohesion.

We are dedicated to making sure that public services are accessible in the most disadvantaged neighborhoods. To foster fairness and equality across the community, we aim to ensure that every resident has access to these services. By connecting Geneva's 45 communes, mobility plays a crucial role in reducing inequalities linked to residential location, fostering a sense of belonging and reinforcing confidence in public space. As it allows our community to thrive and flourish, this approach lies at the heart of our mission to create a Geneva where access and inclusion are not determined by where you live.
