As the operator of Sydney Light Rail, Transdev runs an annual Public Safety Forum, to improve safety on their shared roads and tramways.
The 2024 edition gathered various speakers and panelists (industry, government and community experts) such as:
- Peter McLean, Chief Executive Officer at Bicycle NS, who spoke about the increasing popularity of riding with more than 1.2m bike users at least once a week in NSW and the safety outcomes already achieved with light rail.
- Amanda Tarbotton, Transdev Sydney Light Rail General Manager Safety & Assurance, who emphasized the importance of collaboration and behavioral change in promoting safety.
- Siva Ganesham, Sydney tram driver talked about the challenge of ensuring safer coexistence between trams and bike riders.
One of the panel sessions featured Sarah Nader (Uber Australia), Charlene Bordley (Parramatta Bike Hub’s), Fiona Campbell (City of Sydney’s Cycling Strategy Manager) and Amanda Tarbotton (Transdev). The panel explored the intersecting needs of different stakeholders in a collaborative way from designing networks to daily network use.
