The new evening buses offer extra service from market town and a bonus for Wetherby's evening economy

Pubs and restaurants in Wetherby are looking forward to welcoming more customers after the area’s leading bus operator, The Harrogate Bus Company, revealed plans to launch a late evening service from the market town.

Working in partnership with the West Yorkshire Combined Authority, the new journey will run six nights a week from Monday, 28 October 2024 – ideal for those seeking to make the most of the town’s bars and eating places without worrying about getting home.

The new journey on route X99 starts at Deighton Gates at 10.59pm and takes the usual X99 route into town. It then leaves Wetherby Bus Station Stand A at 11.10pm on Mondays to Saturdays, also following the normal X99 route out of town via West Gate, Linton Road and Linton Lane.

The late evening X99 bus then runs through Linton and East Keswick to Bardsey Bank Top, where it turns left onto the A58 to serve Collingham at 11.29pm, then returning direct to Wetherby.

Normal fares will apply on the new late evening X99 bus, including Mayor of West Yorkshire Tracy Brabin’s £2 Mayor’s Fares cap, which will remain in place until at least March 2025.

We’re delighted to be able to introduce this additional late evening service on our popular X99 route from Wetherby to the villages south west of the town.

The extra late night service will initially run on a trial basis for six months, when its performance will be reviewed. Local councillors have made a strong case for us to introduce this new journey, and we share their hope that it’ll prove popular with residents in the villages along its route.

Kel Pizzuti, The Harrogate Bus Company’s General Manager

Among those welcoming the launch of the new route is East Keswick Parish Council Chairman Cllr. Andrew Batty.

This means villagers can enjoy the night time economy of Wetherby and its cinema, bars and restaurants. It’s an experimental six months’ trial, so my message to residents is, please use it when it starts.

Big thanks also go to Wetherby Councillor Alan Lamb and our ward councillor Sam Firth for their hard work on this one, and supporting East Keswick Parish Council on this.

Cllr. Andrew Batty, East Keswick Parish Council Chairman

Other minor changes to the timetable for The Harrogate Bus Company routes X98 and X99 between Wetherby and Leeds will also be introduced from Sunday, 27 October 2024.

New timetables for both routes are now online at transdevbus.co.uk/the-harrogate-bus-company, and on the Transdev Go mobile app. Printed timetables will also be available closer to the launch date.
