Transdev in Germany will further expand its rail services on NordWestBahn and Bayerische Regiobahn with the timetable change on December 11, 2022. In addition, the existing vehicle fleet will be strengthened with additional Stadler FLIRT EMU and new LINT DMU around Augsburg.
Following NordWestBahn winning the corresponding tender in 2019, there will be noticeable improvements for passengers on the Regio-S-Bahn Bremen/Lower Saxony network at the 2022 timetable change thanks to new lines and higher frequency. This will require additional vehicles to supplement the existing fleet of 35 Alstom Coradia Continental trainsets. From December 2022, 16 new four-unit articulated trainsets of the type Stadler Flirt 3 XL will therefore be added.
The articulated trainsets for the Regio-S-Bahn Bremen/Lower Saxony reach a speed of 160 km/h and have seven passenger doors on each side over a total length of 86.9 meters, enabling passengers to change trains quickly. There is space for 527 passengers in the passenger area, 260 of them seated. Like all FLIRTs, the railcars have bright, friendly passenger areas, are barrier-free and have low floor access throughout. The particularly large multi-purpose areas offer space for transporting up to 30 bicycles. WIFI on the train and a modern passenger information system complete the equipment.
From the timetable change, the Bayerische Regiobahn (BRB) will take over the line from Traunstein to Ruhpolding. Two new Stadler FLIRT 3 vehicles will be in service. These three-car electric trainsets also feature state-of-the-art passenger information, WIFI, air-conditioning with a high air exchange frequency and offer low floor access. BRB has been using 35 Stadler FLIRT 3 railcars on the Chiemgau-Inntal network between Munich, Salzburg, and Innsbruck since 2013.
