Transdev USA is partnering with Easy Mile, Fairfax County Department of Transportation and Dominion Energy to launch an autonomous electric shuttle, called “Relay”, that will operate between a local Metrorail station (the Dunn Loring Metrorail Station) and the Mosaic Shopping District in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.

It is the first test of driverless public transportation in the Washington D.C. region, and it’s also the first state-funded autonomous transportation project in Virginia.

Facts About Relay:

  • State-of-the-art technology with cameras, sensors and GPS
  • Safety operator on board at all times
  • 100% electric for zero emissions
  • ADA accessible with wheelchair access ramp

Currently, set-up, testing and mapping is occurring – obviously, this first stage is being conducted without passengers. Just this testing alone has already garnered a lot of media interest in the area.
