Harbour City Ferries, a 50/50 partnership between Veolia Transdev Australasia and Transfield Services, has just been awarded the operation and management contract for the iconic ferry service in the city of Sydney (Australia).

Assigned by the Government of New South Wales, this contract is a franchise to operate and maintain the Sydney Ferries service, which consists of a fleet of 31 vessels and 37 wharves, transports 14.5 million passengers each year and is operated by 560 staff.

Fixed for a 7-year period with extension option, the contract, starting end of July 2012, is for a revenue of 800 million Australian dollars, equivalent to about 630 million euros.

The enhancement of the customer experience lies at the heart of the Harbour City Ferries proposal, with the implementation of a series of initiatives aimed at ensuring full customer satisfaction. Delivering a high level of reliability and safety, with staff friendliness, reinforced vessel cleanliness, while offering a better integration with other public transports, is our main priority.
Francis Angotti, Director of the Asia Pacific Zone

The transformation of Sydney’s ferries also depends on the fostering within Sydney Ferries of a new customer-centric culture of pride, respect, efficiency and innovation.

The introduction of new business practices and productivity optimisations will help improve the service while at the same time saving money.
