The commissioning is the culmination of a project that began for TRANSAMO in 2008 with authority delegated to CitéTram (SET/TRANSAMO) by the Tours inter-municipal transportation authority.

Crossing from north to south through the cities of Tours and Joue-lès-Tours, the 15 km line forms a transportation infrastructure backbone, serving 29 stations and carrying nearly 55,000 passengers a day. Beyond responding to mobility challenges, the project was an opportunity to restructure the urban space and establish a strong visual identity across 40 hectares of public space, covering both fixed (platforms, buildings) and mobile (rolling stock) elements of the line.

The project also won 2nd prize (tied with the Casablanca light rail) in the “Project of the Year” category at the 8th edition of the Light Rail Awards in London on October 2.

To implement the project and meet on-time and quality objectives, TRANSAMO and the Société d’Équipement de la Touraine (SET) partnered with SITCAT. The dedicated team worked to ensure the project’s coordination and management, conduct follow-up studies and manage administrative procedures in order to meet budget and schedule requirements.
